Lisa Rogers spent her life being a servant leader. Her leadership was meaningful,
powerful and faithful. Lisa touched the world and the people within it with love and admiration for her faith.
Lisa earned a high school diploma from Lockport Township High School worked and put herself through college. She started at Joliet Junior College and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts from Lewis University in 1990 and a Masters of Business Administration from Olivet Nazarene University in 1996. Her persevering spirit led her to work for the U.S. Department of Energy at the tender age of 17.
Lisa met her soulmate, Mike, at church and enjoyed 23 wonderful years of marriage, Together Mike and Lisa had three amazing daughters, first being Alexis, Morgan, and then Mia. Lisa loved her girls. She enjoyed teaching them, exposing them to new experiences and resources and most importantly, she took pride in nurturing their leadership skills.
"Capacity" she would say. "Every relationship in your life is valuable. It is up to you to do the work to figure out the parameters and depth of each of your relationships. This allows you to honor the value in each one and to be able to make a difference."
The freedom to dream and the tools to make it happen are things in which Lisa took pride – teaching not only her girls but other girls and women in the community, within the family and anyone who needed an ear. She had an open door policy.
Lisa was a multi-tasker like the woman described in Proverbs 31; you have an idea? She would have a color-coded binder filled with resources and information ready for you the next day. Your dreams and visions were valuable to her. She loved being the heart of a village of support.
Lisa served as a hard-working Contracting Officer for the U.S. Department of Energy while still being an exquisite Mother, friend, inspiration, and much more to not only her family but anyone who encountered her.
On May 11, 2011, Lisa left the earth much earlier than anyone wanted. She fought fiercely against Breast Cancer until her job here on earth was done.
Lisa walked to clear the path for so many to hit the ground running – encouraging girls and women of color and having grace with them to help them grow - this is her legacy that lives on.
Lisa loved and supported all of you before she had the pleasure of meeting each of you.
Know that her heart with its gently impactful presence is the wind beneath this community’s wings.
